Programme Description

Bachelor Degree in Computer Science with Honours (Data Science) is an undergraduate degree program offered by the Faculty of Computer and Informatics at the Kata Kinabalu campus.

The purpose of the program is to produce skilled and capable graduates in the field of data science, in line with the rapid growth of industries that require the expertise of data scientists.

Students will be exposed and trained on the principles of computer science, science and analytics primarily in data mining, visualization techniques, predictive models, and statistics.

Among the courses offered include computer programming, data science basics, data visualization, data analysis, data mining, analysis and system design for data science, and other programming languages.

Graduates of Bachelor of Computer Science (Data Science) with Honors will have the opportunity to venture into business, web development, database development, mobile application design, as well as research-related career in machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Programme Objectives

  • To provide graduates with knowledge, practical skills and motivation to engage in lifelong learning in Data Science field either as preparation for research or for a career in the computer science field – PEO01.
  • To prepare graduates who possess the ability to design, implement and manage CS solutions, resources and recognize the impact of technology on individual, organizations and society – PEO02.
  • To produce graduates who have communication, team, leadership and interpersonal skills and aware or social ethical and legal responsibility – PEO03.
  • To equip graduates with entrepreneurship knowledge and skills by adapting and commercializing them into their work and product development – PEO04.
